How many Bibles do you have in your library?
We have 17. It’s actually 24 if you count the ones we’ve already set aside to send overseas. I’m going to have to further reduce that number that we are keeping.
According to Christian Resources International (CRI), the average American Christian has 9. The average pastor in third world countries have zero. Imagine your pastor preaching week after week, making disciples, without the leadership of the Word of God.
Think of these Bible statistics coupled with this amazing, praise-God, fact:
In the world, 122,000 people become Christians everyday! More than most of them in Asia and Africa. These believers do not have Bibles and do not have access to Bibles.
There is such a need for Bibles that we could send two forty-foot containers everyday and still not provide each new believer with a Bible. But if each household kept only one Bible and sent the rest overseas we could send a container everyday for the next twenty-nine years!
The founder of CRI presented an interesting challenge. This Christmas season, spend a daily devotional time without your Bible, head to church once without your Bible and tell the account of the birth of Jesus from Luke 1 from memory. Explain to those around you that you are trying to follow Jesus, just like our brothers and sisters overseas, without the use of a Bible. Imagine.

This is a reality here in rural Bolivia. There are many pastors who go about teaching and preaching from a very sincere but bibleless heart. Thanks for sharing these facts. Very important to live on purpose with a world view – a practice that you and Daniel model superbly with your lives.
